Portfolio Task 4

Mass Media
The mass media can make great influence in shaping people’s ideas and some people agree whereas others disagree with this statement. In this essay I will write about agreement and disagreement with the statement.
I agree with the statement because nowadays mass media like television, radio and newspaper has become something they can’t live without and it makes a big difference in people’s ideas. Many people change they ideas because of an actor they saw on TV or a singer the love to listen to, for example some people may watch an action movie and at the future they can be very dangerous to the people around or the society they are living on, that’s because the way they think has been changed and the ideas has become a part of that movie they saw.
On the other hand, I disagree with the statement because family, school and college stand against changing in people’s ideas. Parents’ plays big part in keeping their children under control and school also can keep the ideas as the parents want by teaching. On the other hand I think it is hard to change an idea or a behavior from mass media because when someone grows up with specific idea or behavior it take a long time to get rid of the old behave.
In conclusion, I think mass media can affect people’s ideas only if the power of family, school and college was poor.

Charts

Charts
The charts show 2 line graphs. The first line graph illustrates films shown in Britain and Australia in the year 2000. US films took the highest percentage as it can be seen in the chart and they took 75% in Britain and 68% in Australia. It is clear from the graph the British films came second with 20% in the UK and 5% in Australia. Australian films were only shown in Australia with a percentage of 10% while other films took 3% in Britain and 15% in Australia as it shown in the graph. The second graph shows the cinema attendance in Britain and Australia from the period 1980 to 2000. Britain had a big number of cinema attendance which reached to 100 million people whereas Australia had a number of 40 million people in 1980. A dramatic fail shows in the graph which happened in both UK and Australia to 50 million people in the UK and 20 million people in Australia in 1982. UK showed an increase and decrease in the period 1982 to 1990 but the number in Australia was stable on 40 million people at the same period. From 1990 to 2000 the number was increasing slowly in both UK and Australia. The graph showed how numbers and type of films changes with time.

Global Warming

Our planet which is protected by a thin layer of atmosphere that keeps temperature, water and air balanced to maintain a life the planet which is knows as a paradise and its called our earth, but something wrong is happening and whose causing this is us by our ignorance and this is causing global warming which is raising the earths temperature next to exterior of the air with oceans.

The cause for this is mainly oil, which brings fuel, and gas the problem is this had become out daily life usage. And the worse part is oil is world’s finite resource and we depend on it. The burning of oil and fossil fuels has done seven hundred billon carbon dioxide pollution in to the air which cause heat trapped in the surface of the earth which is caused global warming in coming years. The green house is the procedure in which captivation and release of infrared radiation by gases in the atmosphere warm a planets minor atmosphere and exterior. variant in solar productivity have been the reason of historical climate changes.

On the other hand the “soot” which defines that refers to polluted carbon particles resulting from the partial burning of a hydrocarbon may cool or warm the surface, depending on whether it is in the air. Atmospheric soot exactly soak up solar rays, which heats the atmosphere and cools the surface. In remote areas with high soot invention, like rural India, as much as fifty percent of surface warming cause of to green house gases may be covered by atmospheric brown clouds. The outcome of changes in solar forcing in existing decades is uncertain, but small, with some research demonstrate a minor cooling effect, The scientists has warned us that this is going to be a human challenge.

The international problem since the nine tees it has been the warmest decade in the entire year the temperatures has gone up to one degree Fahrenheit from the last century
Probably this doesn’t sound like it is but it made a lot of difference this small change in degrees had caused us extreme weather conditions rising sea level, storms, flooding of cities, massive ice breaking form the Antarctic its effecting our change in climate and he effects of rising temperature from global warming have revealed its effect on the earth. The signs are universally, from melting glaciers and sea ice in the North and South pole, the rise in sea level, shift in rain patterns deficiency and floods will become more widespread. This of this will have an affect on our ecosystem, which will cause the destruction of various animals.

This stage of this disaster and the big cooperation have done nothing about and instead they have gained money and power the richest countries are causing the most of carbon dioxide emission in the air which they are not aware and this is kind of being selfish to the other parts of the world.

All in all, we can get off oil and slow global warming and use energy more efficiently and support energy resources we should use new green technology that don’t burn carbon dioxide like wind and solar power we have to support non profit green organization things like daily life we can do are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, utilize fewer Heat and Air habituation, make use of compact fluorescent light bulbs, drive less walk more, get Energy Efficient Products, operate Less Hot Water, Use the Off button, plant trees, And less energy use means less reliance on the fossil fuels that produce greenhouse gases and be a factor to global warming. There is a lot we can do to help stop global warming, but the hardest part is committing yourself to make the changes. It is important to know that small changes can make a big impact.

Reflection 2

by the end of the semester we had a full idea about the  course in general , we have learnt how to make a full project and how to write an assays of min 600 words.
all because  of Mr. hedley we knew what LSEC is all about and how do we deal with projects, assignments, assays in a professional way and to do it in a good way.
special thanks to Mr. hedley who began with us from the beginning of the course until the end of it and stopped on every small point which made us  improve our writing and searching skills.
Speaking of myself , I will not forget the steps of doing a project because I'm sure that we will need those skills in the future in the majors coming ahead in the next years.
It was a target for me to bring an A on the course and so it happened.
Again I would thank Mr. hedley our teacher for all what he have done.

Reflection

When I took the course for the first time I thought that it is going to be hard, but it showed up to be very easy and the class enjoyed doing it. In this course we learned a lot of things that are very useful for our future and career future. What I understood from this course is how to improve the searching skills and how to make a full research about any topic; it is also useful to make us improve our English skills like writing and reading because we have to read and write to do a very good research. Mr. Hedley is a very nice teacher and he is in the right position because we understand everything he says and gives to us.
I also learned how to find a topic for my research by searching and reading books and going on the internet. After all, I hope to get a high grade and finish the course with the goal that I have put to myself to bring an A in it.

USB

LSEC N100
Subject Related Research Report

Part 1: a. Describe a technology that is used in my major area.
Considered the latest in technology innovation, the Universal Serial Bus or simply the USB port is a standard connection port like all other devices like the mouse, keyboard, printer to name a few of the vital parts of every computer unit.

Garger, (2010), in his article, “Who invented the USB flash drive?” claimed that the USB was developed in 1996 by the concerted efforts
of some computer companies like  Intel, Compaq, Microsoft, Sony, DEC, IBM and Northern Telecom.  The first invented USB 1.0 had the capability rate transfer of 12 Mbit/s. However, in 2000, USB 2.0 increased its transfer rate to 480 Mbit/s and today the USB 3.0 reaches already the transfer rate of 4.8 Gbit/s. Because of speed, which becomes faster, other devices can be connected to computers very easily and without additional charges. Presently, the USB is called a plug and play port because it is  user-friendly; it has the ease of connecting and disconnecting from the PC. “Any person even with the limited knowledge in computer use can do the ease of connection.  USBs share multiple operations because they are compatible to Windows and Mac and can be used with other operating systems like the Linux with one hundred percent success” (Beal, 2005).

Until 2005, most computer laptops and desktops used floppy disks or CD-ROMs and the USB has almost the same functions as these devices but since the USB is very convenient to use, gradually the computer users phased out the floppy disks because they are more difficult to use and operate.

b. USB Port Uses Today
The most important uses of USB port today are the following:  a) moving files around b) having a portable computing environment c) PC trouble shooting d) booting your computer e) using window vista ready boost and f) sew a pattern high tech style.

The first use of the USB port today is its most convenient way of moving files around. The  USB user can bring his USB port wherever he goes and he can use it whenever he needs his file as long as there is available a computer desktop or laptop. A user can use with portability the port because any brand of computer today can recognize the USB port.  Since some USB ports today are very high tech, small and very reliable, a user can
bring his file anywhere without any burden of over baggage because of paper work.  Every bit of information can be stored in the port regardless of their volume and length and importance and can travel with his author anywhere he goes.

The second use of USB is to have the portable computing environment, which means that the user can own a computing environment with all the data stored in the USB and it can be used in any computer anywhere. One very important use of USB is by loading a bunch of diagnostic utilities for PC troubleshooting.  By the use of USB, troubleshooting is made very easy by sticking in the USB drive and running the diagnostic of your choice. It is also used to perform a virus scan on a computer without the use of an anti-virus device being installed like what other devices are doing to delete the virus. Moreover, a USB drive is very useful in booting the computer because most of the motherboards today are compatible with USB flash drive and as they use BIOS that can boot from a USB drive. The technician has to enter only the BIOS and make changes to the boot order to put to use the USB drive in front of the hard drive. After accomplishing this step, what follows next is the installation of an operating system to your USB drive.

Other uses of USB include the ready boost.  This technology is only in Windows Vista, which allows a USB drive to be used for caching in order to boost the performance of the PC when it slows because of innumerable programs or files stored within its memory card and hard drive. ReadyBoost is a very logical function on the drive to have the easier access with the end result that requests for data from the USB drive are said to be 80 to 100 times faster than a hard drive. “When USB drive is plugged to the compatible vista powered machines, it will provide an additional option for speeding up the system. Lastly, USB now is used for some sewing machines because the drive can be used for updating the software into the machines. For automatic creation of fabrics, the patterns from USB drive can be transferred to the machine, thus you will have sewn a pattern hi-tech style” (Risley, 2007).

Part 2:  Impact of Technology in my major subject

Most of the professionals doing office work like me benefit much from USB mainly for storage of documents and data basing the files and records. Most of the office staff and employees have to do extra work at home aided by their computers. Since the files are in soft copy kept in USB, the poor employee will no longer carry the heavy loads of paper work   home, because they will be organized in a folder and the retrieval is done in a split second.

“USB improved the efficiency of the professional because if he is looking for a particular file, he can easily download it from the USB.  Unlike the hard copy, that searching takes time especially if the records are not well kept and organized.  With the file in the USB, the searching takes seconds and the file can be made available so it will speed up the completion of the work especially those that are prioritized, hence it will improve efficiency tremendously”. (Hokes, 2006.)

USBs in the future will reach 128GB and even 256GB and they will still be useful even beyond twenty years from now.  I presume that the USB in the future will have the transfer rate one hundred times faster than today and will be one hundred percent reliable storage of files and will be virus free.  Hence, USB in the future will be the most reliable storage, library and archive of important information and can benefit the professionals to increase their efficiency one hundred times better than today.
